Moonface - Headed for the Door
Those who know of singer/ songwriter Spencer Krug would know that you can’t keep a good artist down, and though the grim news of an indefinite hiatus stabbed our Wolf Parade loving hearts in 2010, Krug’s solo project Moonface reared it’s melodious dark pop face and we were sated.
Though the actual Krug band catalog extends to a menagerie of wolves, swans, and amphipians (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Swan Lake, Fifths of Seven, Frog Eyes), Moonface first played its role as the solo creative outlet for Krug’s dark imaginations, signature croons, and moody compositions in the long distance romance of Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I’d Hoped (2010). In his second LP Heartbreaking Bravery released early this year, Krug is backed with Helsinki krautrockers Siinai filling alongside his prolific vocal be-moanings and hypnotic keyboards.
Contending for tonight’s track-to-play, the swirly rock anthem antics of ”I’m Not the Phoenix Yet” didn’t quite cut because it left us begging for more, but it’s available for download simply because that percussion and bass is just bad-mother-fucking-ass. Yet, ”Headed for the Door” twists panties for the drone-y melody and rock operatta’ed tendencies. Score!
