DOWNLOAD: Terra Incognito-Atlas Sound
The first single from Parallax, the new album from Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox’s Atlas Sound project, is in a sense: prenomial terrain. Just like his work before, it’s based around a repetitious acoustic guitar figure and then burgeons into something more illusory. And like many Atlas Sound (and Deerhunter) songs, too, the first word sung in this one is “I”, reiterating the project’s typical infiltrating point of convergence. “Terra Incognita” sounds commodious with a distinctive improvement in production, making room for a intoxicating and staggering bassline that runs through the six-minute consternation’s first half.
There’s more space, but Cox has no one to share it with:
I know a place called ‘love’
No one bothered me there
No, I was all alone.
