Family of the Year - Psyche or like Scope

Since releasing their 2010 LP Our Songbook (a collection of their prior self release and EPs), Los Angeles-based band Family of the Year has generated quite a buzz, as they’ve toured with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and stormed with them through Europe and the UK acquiring enthused notoriety wherever they go.

Generally, their work, or moreso Our Songbook, is a collection of gentle, quirky Americana suggesting them as a befitting opening act for the sing-song, jingle-jangled performances of  Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, which works fine if you’re into double-fisting that schwiz. Yet, this track …

“Psyche or like Scope” is a synth-laced disco track, clearly deviating from their obvious folkish leanings and venturing into territory that suggest a little exploring.

The Mixtape File #5: Download.

Shame on living for being so damn strenuous with asinine online courses, work (or lack there of), wacky Miami gallivanting, awkward sexual frustratings, and sundown to dawn LA nightlifing. Sigh. Hard life. Retrograde? Tough shit.

Yet, it’s finally here.  Our Mixtape #5 went through several incarnations through the course of March starting as a dreary ides of sad bastard folkishness and lip-biting grooves, to a house heavy, Ultra-enthused feet trampler to finally this upbeat, toe-tapping indie collection.

How this came to be the final rendition I can sincerely say is due to the people that revolve in my universe and the idea that a mixtape, when done in this frequency, should essentially be a timepiece marking a point of existence, a period of living.

Suffice to say, everything’s alright. Well, it’s as close to alright as weirdness will allow anyway. Merp.
