Arches - This Isn’t a Good Night for Walking
From the self-released debut LP Wide Awake, Philly-based duo Arches captures our sweet affections on this uncharacteristically cool spring evening.
On the LP:
This is a concept album about a character who lives alone in a city. Mundane routines drive the character to flee the city and become a drifter. The character’s perspective of reality becomes convoluted with memories and current travels to the point where the character becomes unable to decipher past and present experiences.
With both Julien Greenberg (guitar/ bass) and Tom Herman Jr. (guitar/ piano) on vocals and support from Kevin Kearney on drums, this concept LP of wanderlust and memory kick-start with “This Isn’t a Good Night for Walking”. Despite the correlations to the popular indie outfit Grizzly Bear and the clamor and coons of duo We Are Trees, the Arches’ melodious near-incantations coupled with the simple, yet multi-phonic, instrumentation distinctly beckon, calling a wayward wanderer to somewhere and anywhere (but here).
Although it may not be a good night for walking, it may be time to go anyway. And off we go.
