Rio en Medio - Let’s Groove (Earth Wind and Fire Cover) (Caz Edit Pt. 1)

Curtain down.

So, I work near a Hooter’s.  And as I suck drags off my cigarette and suffocate on the nicotine, the slow decay of my existence is further perpetuated by the beer-happy playlist of the Hooter’ed damned.  Such like their stale, curly-cut French fries served by the not-so attractive waitress in the not-so attractive, skin-toned leggings (barf in my mouth), top 40’s and golden oldies are neither appetizing nor my forte.  However, I can not deny that certain songs of certain eras melt my insides as they touch upon sentiment and old memories.

Curtain up.

Lesser known indie gem Danielle Stech-Homsy under the pseudonym Rio en Medio cover the Earth, Wind, and Fire 80’s hit “Let’s Groove”.  Better known for both her peculiar instrumentation and ethereal lyricism ripe with literary references, Rio en Medio caught the ear of Devendra Benhardt and signed onto his Gnomonsong label to release her 2007 debut LP Bride of Dynamite.Though the original recording of Stech-Homsy’s cover does not accurately exude her unique spectral folk pop, it nonetheless finds its place as a cute diddy by an adorably unassuming artist.

Yet, featured for this rainy evening, the edit by Atlanta-based DJ’s Mike Zarin and Chris Nicholson (aka CAZ) spice up the button-up’ed rendition of the Earth, Wind, and Fire disco jam.  A mix of Balearic percussions and dance beats liven up the atmosphere in this CaZ edit, adding a little booty and shake to the cover’s hand-clappity cuteness.

Groovy.
